Warped Dreams

Warped Dreams is a series of plaster tiles that interrogate the modern ideal of home ownership, the widespread belief that securing a house or apartment will lead to lasting happiness and fulfillment. The series reflects on the disillusionment that often follows the realization of this dream, as financial, emotional, and existential burdens take the place of the promised peace.

Created for the group exhibition Utopia: City of Dreams, the work is rooted in architectural imagery, aligning with the exhibition’s broader exploration of how urban environments shape human experience. I believe that architecture is the physical manifestation of society. It is not just about structures, it is a mirror of societal values, and the cities we build inevitably shape the lives and psyches of those who inhabit them.

The exhibition featured work by Lee Kab Jae, Kim Haesook, Park Hyo Jung, and myself. Each artist explored how built environments intersect with individual and collective attempts to find meaning in contemporary urban life. Warped Dreams contributes to this dialogue by questioning the narratives we’re sold about success, security, and what it means to belong.
