Fragile was part of a group exhibition titled Making a Way, featuring the work of Haesook Kim, Hyo Jung Park, and myself. This exhibition marked the first time The Group showcased work together outside of Korea, making it a significant milestone in our artistic journey.
Exhibiting in a different cultural context was both rewarding and enlightening, revealing new perspectives on my own work. It offered me the chance to see how my ideas are interpreted outside of their familiar environment and, in some ways, highlighted the fragility of certain concepts I had held. This experience prompted deep reflection on my worldview and provided an opportunity to reinforce and evolve my artistic approach moving forward.
The exhibition’s title reflected our collective drive to create opportunities for ourselves, seeking spaces to showcase our work rather than waiting for validation or discovery. The poster featured an image of a rune stone, referencing the Scandinavian tradition, in many ways, foreshadowing the self-discovery I experienced. Ultimately, the exhibition revealed vulnerabilities within my own constructed reality and set my work on a new and exciting path for the future.
Thank you to Boris and Wiveka Vanrillaer, founders of Vita Magasinet, for the opportunity to have our work exhibited in Sweden.
